Formats
Magic the Gathering has a variety of different formats, each with its own rules, deck-building requirements, and competitive scenes.
Here's a summary of some of the main ones
Standard: A rotating format using the most recent sets.
It’s ideal for new players and emphasizes fresh strategies and balanced gameplay.
Modern: A non-rotating format that allows cards from sets dating back to 8th Edition.
It offers a wide range of decks and strategies, with a ban list to maintain balance.
Pioneer: A newer non-rotating format starting from Return to Ravnica.
It’s a middle ground between Standard and Modern in terms of card pool and complexity.
Commander (EDH): A casual, multiplayer format with 100-card singleton decks and a
legendary creature as your commander. It emphasizes creativity and social play.
Legacy/Vintage: Eternal formats that allow almost all cards in Magic’s history.
Legacy has a ban list; Vintage restricts certain powerful cards. Both are known for high-power levels.
